“What an Experience”

I. My Accomplishment

Since I already finished my 10 lessons last week, the next things that I need to accomplish was my other requirements such as our group reporting in our one and only subject which is “The Teaching Profession”, FS, Activity Form and etc. It was good that I’ve finished my Field Study (FS), from episode 1-5. I will just be designing it for this time, so that it would be ready for the submission. It was good that I was done with the other requirements that I had mentioned a while ago. Thank God, some of my requirements were finished. Just to finished and submit our requirements will lead us to end this last semester. I am excited for our graduation day. It’s time for me to celebrate.

II. My Significant Experience

It was such an unforgettable experience that I had encounter. This is not much related to my teaching profession but I can connect this experience to the word “Honesty”. I went to an ophthalmologist last Saturday for me to check up my eyes and have eye glasses which is worth 3000 and so I must have to give my down payment. After giving my payment, I was asked to check the frame of my chosen lens. After choosing the frame, the doctor again asked me the payment, I was surprised because I already gave it to him. Yes I really gave to already, I can remember that. Therefore I had to explain my side that I already give my payment to her but she insisted that she did not receive any money coming from me. To cut the story short, the truth was revealed; the doctor put it on her pocket. But at least she did not deny the fact that it was there in her pocket. She was honest to reveal it behind those arguments that we had.

III. My Insights

From the situation that I had encountered, being professionals is that we must have to do the right thing. We must not deny the fact that we also commit mistakes that is why we must be honest enough to accept that we are just humans that commit mistakes.

IV. Problem

It will already be my rated demo next week. I will be observed by Sir Ambong at exactly 7:40 am, so I need to prepare myself and my lesson. This is the last demo that I will be having that is why I need to try my best to really give my best shot. How can I do it? I hope I can do it with God’s grace and guidance. Thank you Lord, you are always there for us in terms of our needs.

V. Solution

The possible way to be prepared and be ready to my rated demo is to relax myself of whatever will happen because I believe that I can also do it like what the others are doing. I just need to be natural with all those gestures, body movement, facial expressions and the like and be open to my students need.

VI. My Goal for Next Week

Simply, my goal for next week is to finish all the requirements and my task as a student teacher so that I can rest any time I want. All of those forms that I must have to fill out must be done in order to begin my next journey after this semester. The first thing that I still need to keep in mind is to really finish first all of my requirements.

I. My Accomplishment

It is really difficult to capture the heart of my students here in private school unlike my students in public school. I don’t know how to make their heart move. This was my problem at first but now there’s a change because every time we see them around the school campus during break time, some of them were already greeting us, they say the words “hello ma’am”. This word that comes from them inspires us. At least somehow, they still give a little of their attention to us. I am happy that they care for us and they see us by saying the two words Although, they do not give their full attention to us, still I am thankful for having their simple greeting to us. This is my accomplishment for this week because this is one way to prove that somehow my strategy of getting their attention works.

II. My Significant Experience

My CT was a couch for the whole week, so she needs a substitute teacher. And so, it was difficult for us to be in charge of the 6 sections that she handles. Although, we have the substitute teacher who is entering each classroom, still there are some times that we don’t have a substitute teacher; therefore we need to manage the class.

There was this time when a substitute teacher entered our classroom she sits at the back and I was also there observing my co-student teacher who is in charge to talk for the class. Then suddenly, the substitute teacher caught the attention of a female student. She was mad and angry at the student because of her behaviour. The substitute teacher was really mad at that time saying these words: “damn you” and “shame on you”. I know that the female student was very ashamed for the incident but I cannot also blame the teacher because she was just trying to give discipline to the student who is not behaving well because she keeps on making noise and chatting with her seatmates that made the teacher mad at her. To cut the students short me, a student teacher who witnessed this incident made me think of what I am going to do in my future career every time I encounter students who misbehave. Honestly, I will not do the same thing, saying all the bad words to my students. This was a significant experience to me because, in my own perspective a teacher must model good image to his students without saying these bad words.

III. My Insights

From my significant experience that I had for this week, I am really thinking of the bad words that the students receive from the substitute teacher. Although, the purpose of

The teacher is to give discipline to the student, still my mind says “it was wrong” to say those words. Those words must not be heard by the 50 students of the class. Its okay to get angry with the students but saying these bad words will not permit for being a good model to our students. Anyway, this was just my own point of view. Others will already be the one who will judge if it is right or wrong.

IV. Problems

The day of the “finals” is already approaching, so we have lists of our requirements to be done as soon as possible and honestly I did not yet finished my FS. I am still t fill out the episode 3. Other requirements that we must have to accomplish are our reporting to the other subject. But anyway, this is life, I just need to be alert and be patience in accomplishing these things.

V. Solutions

Be alert and be patience all the time is a pre-requisite in having these words: “work is done”. I need to have thing in a step by step process so that at the end of the semester I will be easily accomplishing all of these requirements.

VI. My Goal for Next Week

Being positive all the time will help me to achieve what I want and having this phrase “Be a blessing” will give me enough courage to finish all the things that I must have to finish for next week.

“The 10 Lessons”

I. My Accomplishment

I never thought that I would finish my 10 lessons as early as it was finished last week. Maybe because, we handle 2 levels such as the third year and the fourth year that is why we easily get 2 lessons per day that made me finish my 10 lessons here in private school. One advantage of handling third year and fourth year was we are given the chance to take two lessons a day.

As a continuation about my accomplishment this week was, when it comes to the papers that I must have to check and record. I also finished them in order to complete my class record in which I must have to submit to my CT. Completing my 1o lessons made me realize that doing all these requirements is not just finishing for the sake of graduating but a must to become the best teacher in the future to teach the young minds.

II. My Significant Experience

We are going home waiting for a jitney together with my friends. While waiting, I saw one of my students being with her friends. My thought at the time was she will ignore me as her student teacher especially that student here in private refuse their teacher by not greeting them, so how much more with us as their student teacher, we are just their student teacher. And so for them we are not valued, I really feel it unlike with the public school students; they are very appreciative in terms of showing how they are thankful to have us as their practice teacher to them. But, back with my story, I did not expect that she say “hello’” to me. That simple “hello’ made me feel that I am really a teacher to them. At least out of my 200 students, I have still one student who shows appreciation to what I am doing to them.

III. My Insights

During my lesson on phonetics, I really learned a lot of things such as we had the common mispronounced words. These were cupboard, scarce, vineyard, martyr, viscount and depot. In order to correct not just my students but me myself as their teacher I had list down guides for me to follow.

Moreover, after phonetics I also had the spelling bee in my class in which during the time of researching some list of words. I had learned that the commonly misspelled words were beginning, occasion, tomorrow, tongue, receive, bizarre and accommodation. Therefore, we need to be just being careful of these letters which are double or single. As an English teacher I must avoid this confusion to happen.

IV. Problems

Actually, it was not really a problem but I take it as a problem especially that I have something to improve. My CT was a very kind person in such a way that every time we ask a favour to her, she always give it to us, but the only thing that caught my attention was she does not give any feedback  in times that we are done teaching to a particular classroom. How can we know my mistakes if she does not give any comments and suggestions after we teach?

V. Solutions

Maybe, it’s her own way of challenging us, even though she does not tell something to us, what she think is we know how to improve ourselves without telling things to us. We must know it on our own without telling anything to us.

VI. My Goal for Net Week

 I need to help my CT in teaching the sections that she handles. I know that this will be an opportunity to me to teach more lessons in order to impart inspirational messages to my students. It is also a privilege to teach more lessons even though I was finished already because I know that my students are not only the one who are learning but me myself. I am really learning from them.

I. My Accomplishment

Teaching different sections is a little bit tough. We handle 2 sections of 3^rd year and 4 sections of 4^th year. For now, I was already used to them with all their characteristics, values, attitudes, behaviors, skills, weaknesses and potentials as students. Therefore, somehow I know how to approach them every time they make a noise but still some other students are very hard to approach especially students who seem like hyperactive in a manner that they shout at their classmates. All of these made me a strong teacher that serves as my accomplishment for this week. I became a strong teacher because of the behaviour of my students.

II. My Significant Experience

This week was significant to me because we had our recollection. We are gathered to be as one family in such a way that we are seated together to witness the talks of the speaker which is known to be a “brother”. He had many experiences especially his past life such as his vices until he just found out himself in a church listening to God’s message. My reflection from brother’s speech was to really put God into our lives as we commit ourselves to him.

III. My Insight

I learned from our recollection that we must accept God into our lives as we become a good disciples to him as we follow his goodwill to us because according to the bible it said that “I had good plans for you despite the contrary things that may had happen in your life, I want to give you hope and happy future.

IV. Problems

For my problem this week was our jitney going to town and going home. Sometimes, because of the construction of our road, I was not able to be as early as last month. Because of this matter, I was nearly to be late last time. How can I secure not to be late the other day?

V. Solution

Maybe the only solution to my problem is for me to wake up early in the morning and prepare all the things that I need as early as 5:00 am so that at exactly 6:00 in the morning, its time already for me to ride a jitney.

VI. My Goal for Next Week

I only have 3 lessons more, so my goal for next week is to finish all the required 10 lessons in the private school without any disturbances I need to make myself alert because I still have some requirements.

“Let’s get started”

I. My Accomplishment

I thank God because I had already started teaching in private school especially the 4^th year students. This would serve as my achievement for this week because I know that finishing the 10 lessons here in private school would take time to complete the lessons.

Last week, when I entered one of the classrooms of the 4^th year students, I was full of anxiety; it was because it is my first time to teach students from private school. I noticed that before the prayer, everybody is making noise. I need to catch their attention to begin with the prayer. It is good that some students followed what I had said.

II. My Significant Experience

When I was discussing a particular topic to my student, one of my students raised his hand then started asking a particular question. He asked a question. It was good for me that I manage to answer his question without having dead air. I was afraid that I may not answer his question but I am glad that I did try my best to answer it. This was very significant for me because this is only the time that I experience this kind of thing seriously with the presence of my Cooperating Teacher because honestly in public, they just asked a question to me without my Cooperating Teacher.

III. My Insights

For me to be able to get more strategies about how to manage students in private school is that observing my CT would be a great help to collect strategies basing on how I manage a classroom especially that she already teach these kinds of students for how many years. But before we started teaching, she remind as about managing. She said that in terms of classroom management, the students are noisy in a sense that it is an academic noise. Furthermore, they are cooperative and participative in terms of recitation.

  

IV. Problems

I observed that during my discussion, some of my students at Lab High are participating but they possess such attitude as hyperactive. They shout out their answers while reciting. When I had their group activity which is manuscript reading, some of the member of the group read loudly which is not pleasant to hear. How can I solve this problem?

V. Solution

Maybe, the solution to my problem is I must be very strict in terms of disciplining them in such a way that I will make my appearance firm and possess authority which is in a positive manner just to make and change their hyperactive behavior.

VI. My Goals for Next Week

For next week, maybe I could execute lessons as possible as I can so that I would already finish the half of my 10 lessons that I must have to complete. Even though it is a little bit hard, I know I can possibly do it because my motivation is the “diploma” that I will be having later on.

I. My Accomplishment

It was a relief that I have done my narrative report which is individual. This minimizes my task as student teacher with all those requirements. But I know that this was just training for me to be the best teacher in the future. Another requirement that I had accomplish was the narrative report which is assigned for us by group. So, we had divided the task, the topic that was given to us was all about the learning output of the students. I tried to come up with the best essay in making my narrative that can persuade and convince my reader to focus their attention into it.

II. My Significant Experience

I gave my cell phone number to my students for the purpose of helping them in case that they will be having their problem on their academic subject particularly English. I made an agreement that they will only be texting me if they had some questions regarding their academic subjects, therefore their questions will not be entertained if it is beyond personal matters. I am glad that they follow this agreement that I had implemented. This was a significant part for me because this was only the time that I gave my number in public but of course because I want to help my students which are in need of my service.

III. My Insights

For me the only thing that will help me to gain success is to include the phrase “smart working” in my life. This is my armor in making things as possible as it is. I need to survive having this phrase.

IV. Problems

Honestly I was afraid to know who will be my CT in private school. But then, as the time comes, we need to go at the LAC office to get to know who will be our assigned CT. I was fortunate that God gave me this kind of CT. I was blessed that she is the one.

V. Solutions                                                                                                       

Maybe if I was assigned to a CT who was so very strict, the only thing that I must have to do was to take the challenge in my hand. Who knows there is an advantage to have a terror CT?

VI. My Goal for Next Week

I need to start doing my 10 lessons next week and also to do my FS which is one of our requirements for us to graduate and take the board exam.

I. My Accomplishment

I cannot believe that I was done with my 30 lessons. I was very happy because at last I completed the first session of my practice teaching. With all the evaluation form, activity form, summary of lessons form and etc... When it comes to my evaluation form, I was contented with all my scores which were graded by my cooperating teacher. All in all it was a good performance. It was really an unforgettable experience being with star sections in teaching them to touch their lives. I hope that they learned a lot from me and they will not forget the important concepts of my lessons that I shared to them.

II. My Significant Experience

October 24, 2014 was my last day in City High. I did not expect that my students will surprise me by preparing a short program for me. When I entered their classroom, I had seen some balloons on the floor and a chair at the center which was served for me to seat. All their messages to me made me realized that it was good to be a teacher especially if the students love you and appreciate what you are doing to them.

All of the sections that I handled had prepared a surprise for me. Some of the boys danced with me, some of the girls gave their messages to me. Thinking that I will be leaving them makes my heart aches. I do not know my feeling; I really used to love them very much in a short period of time.

III. My Insights

I learned that tea bag helps our hands to prevent its perspiration, so for me to avoid my hands in perspiring I need to use this tea bag. Thank you for ma’am Gamez, she was the one who told me this thing.

IV. Problem

Knowing that we will be transferring to private school on Monday makes me feel sad all of a sudden because of the thought that students from public school to private school are very different in terms of discipline. Students from public school are more respectful than that of the private school. This is one of my problems that I am encountering right now.

V. Solutions

I must set my rules as a teacher as I go to private school and set all my standards for them to follow. I need to be tough and brave as I will be deployed in the private school. I must not show my weakness to them.

VI. My Goals for Next Week

I must prepare all my instructional materials in transferring to private school so that it would not be hard for me to make things easy as I go to the Laboratory High School.

“It’s great to be a sensei”

I. My Accomplishment

          I can feel that my students love me, maybe because I am a kind teacher to them. For more than 20 lessons that I had taught to them, they were already used on how I deliver my lessons and also the strategies that I am integrating every time I execute a particular lesson. My style, the way I talk, the way I move marks my identity as a teacher. For now, I am just on my way of experiencing what a teacher is and what a teacher does. It is great to be a sensei of the students.

II. My Significant Experience

          I did not expect that my cooperating teacher will share her food to me. We ate together at their faculty office, a place for every teacher. At that, time I was very conscious because all of the teacher in 4^th year level where there taking also their snacks. But all in all, it was such an honor to be with her sharing foods together, telling her stories to me and telling also my stories to her. Somehow, she was a nice cooperating teacher to me. She always gives some advices towards developing me as a better teacher. She reminds me of what are the things that I must have to do in gaining some qualities of a teacher. These things helped me a lot because I can see that somehow I am improving myself. This was a significant experience to me because I enjoyed it a lot.

III. My Insights

          In our seminar which is entitled “The Heart of Teaching” made me realized and learned something. The heart of teaching was full of virtues such as compassion, responsible, constant, gentle, tolerant, faithful, honest, dignified, enthusiastic, humility and respectful. I want to apply these things for I know that this is my profession which involves a lot of things which are the different virtues. I was glad that these things are introduced to me. Therefore I will engage myself to these virtues.

IV. Problems

          I was not aware that I had no money inside my pocket when I entered the grocery to buy what I need. When I am about to pay at the cashier, I was surprised that my money is not enough to pay my expenses, so I need to get 3 pesos in my fair that I had reserve a while ago. So my problem now is I have no money for my fare to go home.

V. Solutions

          I need to contact my friend because I need to borrow 2 pesos from her by texting her so that I can go home, if not, then I will just going to walk. I was fortunate enough because she replied. Maybe I was not able to go home without her. I am really thankful to her.

VI. My goal for next week

 I need also to complete and comply with my other requirements which are the SF 1- SF 5 so that at least it will lessen my problems in life. Somehow this will make my life easy and free.

“Appreciation”

I. My Accomplishment

Last Saturday, ma’am Shirley gave us our grade in our subject which is the “The teaching profession”. When I look at my grade, it was not that high but at least it was an above average grade that made me contented. I am very thankful to have this as my grade. I appreciate it a lot.

II. My Significant Experience

The second time around my students in IV- Tolerance gave me another valuable thing for me to keep. They gave me an accessory which is made by them. Among the four sections that I handle, they are the ones who are very appreciative. I am very thankful to have them as my students. They make me happy.

III. My Insights

It is really hard to please everybody. There was this person whom I know. Even though, I am helping her every time she asked a favor, still she does not appreciate it. Why is it? I myself I cannot answer this. Maybe she is really this kind of person.

IV. My Problems

I don’t know if I can finished my 10 left lessons until October 24, but I must have to because it will be a problem for me if I cannot finish all my 30 lessons.

V. My Solutions

Maybe what I need to do is to finish doing my written lesson plan so that the only thing that will only make me burden is only the execution of my lessons.

VI. My goal for next week

I need to make things fast to finish doing and executing my lessons well and order for me to start doing my FS 6.

“It’s time”

I. My Accomplishment

Having the rated demo was quite challenging and was a tough one in such a way that it requires a lot of preparation and self-confidence towards making it an excellent performance for the eyes of my supervising Instructor.

Tik tok! Tik tok! It’s time for me to have my rated lesson with sir Ambong. There are butterflies in my stomach and I am thinking of what will happen during my lesson but the show must go on so I gain a lot of self-confidence to start with my motivation part that is to tell a short story entitled “The other side of my dream”. I tried to be calm in presenting my lesson. It’s an achievement to have my lesson be rated without interference.

II. My Significant Experience

It was Friday in the afternoon when my students in IV- Tolerance gave me 3 pieces of delicious polvorons. I was surprised that they handed me polvorons. As a student teacher I did not expect that this would really happen because I was just their student teacher not their real teacher. I appreciate it so much.  Honestly and seriously aside, IV- Tolerance is my sweetest students among those 4 sections that I handle. They are very different than those 3 star sections that I handle. For me even though they are regular section who is very noisy still I love them because they make me feel special unlike with the star sections. Star sections are lack of initiative.

This was a very significant experience that I had because this was the very first time in my life that my students gave something to me.

III. My Insights

This week I realized that we must have to be always contented of what we have because there are more people who are less fortunate than us. Therefore we need to be thankful of what we have right now.

IV. Problems

Problems are already part of our life.  We just need to be strong enough to face them. In relation to this, the only thing that made me strike this week is the fact that I have no money for this week. My parents did not go home because they are too busy working at the farm so they did not handed me some money so I need to find a solution for this.

V. Solution

I was able to find a remedy regarding my problem. Meanwhile I asked my sister to lend me some of her money for this week.

VI. My Goal for Next Week

I need to have six lessons for the upcoming week because there are so many interruptions that are coming and so I need to make things as fast as I can to compile with all my requirements as practice teacher.

“To teach to the stars”

I. My Accomplishment

At the very start, I was just assigned to teach one section which is the regular section. For me, both star section and regular section were just the same in terms of their preferences on the activities. Maybe the only difference is that the way they behave especially when it comes to classroom management. Regular section is noisy all the time. Moreover star section is a little bit of high perspective rather than the regular section. This is the reason why I have a fear in handling star section thinking that if I commit mistake, they are going to laugh at me and make fun of me maybe. But in the end, my notions about them were all wrong. I entered to their classroom last September 26, 2014 (Friday). It was a little bit tough but I was able to manage them and give them activities to do. They were all very active in doing their assigned task. I handled all the star section for this day. So it’s my accomplishment to teach them without having an error. I can still handle them even though some teacher said that they were all smart.

II. My Significant Experience

I did not know that my cooperating teacher will let me handle all the star section today. I did not expect it so what I did was to normally enter their classroom as if I used to enter all the time. It was an opportunity to me to have the different section for one day. I enjoyed being with them. At that time, I was able to feel that that I am really a teacher assuming that they are paying me for my job well done and an excellent service towards my students.

III. My Insights

In phonetics, there are some words that need to give emphasis like the word “salmon”. It read as salmon with letter “L” but it actually read as “samon”, silent “L”.

IV. Problem

I did not expect to have my straight teaching for one day because I was not told to do so that is why I am not prepared to have my materials with me. What am I going to do about this issue?

V. Solution

What I did was to go with the flow even though my instructional materials were not there. I just come up with plan B which is giving them an activity after I discussed the concept about getting details through information.

VI. My Goals for next week

Next week will already my rated lesson with my Supervising Instructor. I need to be brave enough to give the best that I can do, as possible as I can. All I have to do is to believe in myself in order to please my Supervising Instructor that I can really teach that I deserved to have my graduation on January.

“Making it possible”

I. Accomplishment

It was a big help for me teach every day because somehow I completed 8 lessons rather than completing only 3 lessons last week. Before, it was hard for me to deal with my students but little by little they were at least enjoying my lesson especially my activities. All of them were participating but still few more strategies to keep them more behave and be silence until the end of my lesson.

II. Momentous

Last Tuesday, September 16, 2014, I was thinking of a particular technique for me to integrate my topics which were relative pronouns to literary work. After minutes of thinking, I came up with a short inspirational story entitled “My mother with one eye”. In the application part, I planned to let them listen first to the story using music as a background of the story towards making it touching and emotional. Afternoon came, it was the time for me to execute the lesson that I planned. I was thinking that my application part will be rejected by my students but it’s not. Some of my students cried because of the story which depicts a mother with one eye who sacrifice and give her one eye to her son yet the son wanted her to just die because the son hated her for having one eye. After reading the story, they wanted me to repeat all over again. They were really touched by the story; I did not expect that some of them will have teary eyes. And also, somehow my cooperating teacher appreciated and commended my strategy. According to her it was such an excellent technique.

III. Insights

It was such a great honor that my cooperating teacher was giving me positive feedback and comments on the way I taught my students. She appreciated it so much. Moreover, she gave me pointers to remember in order to manage my class. One technique that she shared was: Do not be strict and getting angry all the time. Students are very sensitive now a day. In order to capture their hearts, try to focus your attention to them in such a way that you show them that you really care and love them sincerely. Somehow this was very helpful to me because it made it happen.

IV. Difficulties

I always think of a possible and faster solution to complete the 30 lessons as early as possible. I was counting all the days that were left. There were only 30 days left. If I will not going to teach every day I will not be able to complete the 30 lessons.

V. Solution

Maybe, the only thing that I can do to accomplish all the 30 lessons is to simply teach every day.

VI. My Goals for Next Week

I need to make things fast because October 24 is already approaching, so my goal for next week is to have the execution of my lesson every day. I know that if I will do my best then God will also do the rest. All I need is to take it as a blessing every day.
