September 1-5, 2014
I Began to Teach

I. My Accomplishment
It was 10 minutes before 3:00 in the afternoon, I began preparing all the things that I need for my first demo teaching in IV- Tolerance. I thought it would be as worst as I expected. I start discussing my first lesson to them with my critic teacher who is at the back seat. I was very nervous at that time but I tried not to show it. Until 4:00 came, so it is time for my critic teacher to release her feedback according on how the way I delivered my lesson. There may be some flaws and negative comments but she commend me for having well-modulated voice, self-confidence, and being enthusiastic in delivering my lesson. All in all I successfully made it because I really did my best in executing my first lesson.

II. My significant Experience
When I entered the faculty room, one critic teacher asked a help to me. He gave me a statement in which I must have to write on a manila paper. It was a kind of a congratulatory statement of their co- teacher who took MAEd recently at Saint Louis University, which is my school. So I immediately go at the library to write the statement and go back after I finished writing it. Then when I enter the faculty room to give the manila paper, another favour was asked, I need to read the statement clearly with all those critic teacher surrounding me. All those eyes inside the faculty room were focus on me waiting for me to read the statement. I cannot do anything but to read it. At last, Ive done it greatly maybe it was because of the teachers reaction. These things were significant to me because I was challenged in reading the congratulatory statement.

III. My Insights
As a teacher, it is effective for my students to set my rules inside the classroom and reminding them all the time to behave properly, to keep them quiet all the time, to listen to someone when somebody is talking or speaking, to respect me as their student teacher. I have already done these things; it helped me a lot to implement discipline to them.

IV. Problems
Asking favour is sometimes unfair for me. Again, my critic teacher asked some help for her personal needs. I need to buy her a Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper for the assignment of her daughter who is in Grade 9. She asked this favour to me in the afternoon. So, I need to bring it tomorrow morning. But how can I buy a newspaper where in fact our call time in the morning is 7:15 am, so there will be news stand as early as 7:00 am. They are not yet open. I tried to text her telling this and that reason. If I could already buy in the afternoon before I will go home but she replied that she need tomorrows issue. Theres nothing I can do but to really look for news stand in the morning as early as 6: 40 or 7:00 am. But sad to say, I fail to find any news stand. Its a big problem to me. Where can I buy a Philippine Daily Inquirer?

V. Solution
I did not give up in finding a solution to my problem. What Ive done was to time in first at City High and go back to buy that precious newspaper of my critic teacher. At last, I made to buy one at session road. Good for me, I was accompanied by my co-student teacher. So we went back as early as we could at City High because we are not allowed to go out especially during class hours.

VI. My goals for next week

To finish at least two lessons for Thursday and Friday and also to think of a new possible techniques and strategies for my students like new games, activities and exercises.

Week 3 August 25-29, 2014 “The Beginning”

The Beginning

I. My Accomplishment
          My cooperating teacher gave me a lot of activity paper for me to check, I finished checking them for more than two hours. Moreover, she let me do the project of her daughter which is making a bookmark. She said to me that she was not satisfied of the bookmark that was made by her daughter, so she asked a help from me to make it better, so she gave me money to buy some materials to be used in making the project. I accepted her favour and make the best thing that I can do for that bookmark even though I know that it is beyond my responsibilities as student teacher. I just take it as a blessing as what my supervising instructor does and tell. But the most important thing was I had accomplished doing all these things.

II. My Significant Experience
          At the time, when I had first meet my students, I feel indifferent towards them thinking that they will not like me as their student teacher. I know its very hard to capture their hearts, so when I introduce myself to them, I set my standards and rules for them to follow and said things that will move their heart like saying this statement I know you will cooperate with me as I discuss a particular lesson with you and I am blessed to have you as my students. This was significant to me because it was just a beginning for me to start to be with them, not just as an old sister for them but as a teacher.

III. My Insights
 I had checked the activity papers of the fourth year students and I found out many vocabulary words in their papers. These words were stet, brood, anima, soot and etc. One thing more that I had gained was a strategy that I can implement to my future students later on was a strategy on vocabulary words. I am very thankful that I had all encountered these things.

IV. Problems
 I really dont know what strategies, activities, teaching methods can I execute to my first demo teaching. I need to plan an effective motivation and activities that will encourage my students to participate in the execution of my lesson. Its hard to think something unique that will make their attention focus even at the end of the lesson.


V. Solution
In order for me to enrich my lesson planning, I asked some of my co-student teacher on what strategies can I use to make my lesson effective enough for my student. Also, I had searched techniques which are related to my topic which is Skimming and Scanning from the internet to collect ideas that will make my students happy and actively participating on the execution of my lesson next week. I hope I can do it!

VI. Goals for Next Week

Next week is already the first execution of my first lesson plan in City High so my goals for next week is to do the best that I can in order to impress my Cooperating Teacher because as what they say First impression will last.

Week 2 August 17-22, 2014 “Good Job”

Good Job

I. My Accomplishment
Doing my instructional materials is my accomplishment for this week. These were the pocket chart and the boards that I had made and exerted a lot of effort just to make them in a very creative and very useful way for my students to use it. I started doing these instructional materials by getting some colored papers and started cutting them into strips as a design on the sides of the boards. Next thing that I had done was I had pasted all these strips on the boards sides. Then, I let them dry for how many seconds. Finally, I covered them with a clear tape not to be easily destroyed; same is through with the pocket chart. I am very glad that I had finished doing them ahead of time.

II. My Significant Experience
I was assigned to conduct an opening prayer last August 22, 2014. Honestly, I am not use to prayers especially for big groups because I was just use to pray on my own. But still, I had tried to lead a touching prayer that can move and inspire my co-student teachers. So at the end of it, I did not expect that I made it. This was a significant experience for me because with the help of this prayer and with all those wishes that I had ask to God, I believe that it will all be granted. I can feel his spirit at that time when I was praying in front of them. God is there for us.

III. My Insights
Last August 19-20, 2014, we had our demo teaching. In each major, there was a particular person that was assigned to execute his/her lesson. At the end of the demo teaching, there were some comments and suggestions. From these comments and suggestions, I had learned that in processing my students answer, I must also get another idea from another students to further elaborate the idea or it is better to get 2-3 idea of students to further elaborate the idea or it is better to get 2-3 idea of students for them to answer a particular question and then combine them afterwards in order to get their main point.

IV. Problems
Sometimes we need to plan a particular thing ahead of time so that we will not be encountering some mistakes in such doing things just like my instructional materials, I already pasted a particular design for it not knowing that it will make it dull and unorganized. Its a waste of time, money, and effort.

V. Solution
Even though my first instructional materials were not successfully done, I did not give up but think of a remedy to make it better. Minutes pass by, I had think of a possible solution that is to highlight and put some boarders to all the sides of my instructional materials, thus it will make it artistic not a dull one. So from a dull instructional material, it turned into artistic one.

VI. My Goals for Next Week
We are already to be deployed to our assigned public school, so my goal for next week is to make my very best to teach my students well. I must have the self-confidence talking in front of them, and to always get their attention especially when I am already discussing my lesson.

Week 1 August 11-15, 2014 “I can do it”

I can do it


I. My Accomplishment
Last Tuesday (8:00 pm), August 12, 2014, I started doing my minute note book; I covered the outside page of my minute notebook with cartolina following our color coding which is baby pink. After that, I wrote all those possible content by following the given format which entails the date, meeting number, venue, time started, presiding officers and etc. At last, I finally finished it at exactly 11:30 pm for the submission tomorrow. Another requirement that I had completed was my Research Review Journal number 1. It was 10:30 in the evening, August 14, 2014 (Thursday) when I finished doing my Research Review Article number 1 entitled Strategies in Teaching English Composition to students who have Hearing Impairment in Nyanza. It is a research about some techniques of teaching English composition. Some of the techniques are repetition, discussion, group work, peer teaching, questioning, guided writing, story signing and dramatization. From these different strategies, it was found out that repetition, discussion and demonstration were the most frequently used while group work, peer teaching and story signing were the least used strategies.

II. My Significant Experience
Last Wednesday, August 5, 2014, we had our activity introduced by Sir Catama and maam Ayao-ao. All of us need to demonstrate and show how we are going to target the center of the circle drawn on the board. I do not know what actions I should have to present in front of my co-student teachers because I think all of the actions were already done by them. But still, I tried to think of possible unique action knowing that it is impossible for me to do this particular action. I earned so much confidence and tried to believe in myself in order to show them what can I do and what I can show. I do dancing and karate actions. Suddenly, my shoe that I wore at my left foot flew. At that time, I felt that I am a comedian actress and a professional dancer. It was really embarrassing to do it but somehow, I am happy to make them smile and laugh Maybe the purpose of the activity was for us to gain self-confidence in spite of many people around us. The game implied to us that we need first to have those difficulties in life before succeeding to our goals and objectives as future teachers. Same is through when we are already in the field of teaching. We need to be brave and have confidence in front of our students for them to believe on what we are saying and talking in front of them. 

III. My Insights
When sir Catama told us that a mendicant is the same as beggar, honestly speaking, it is a new word for me to hear. From that word, I gain an additional knowledge about vocabulary words. I can use this word as an alternate word to beggar especially if I am writing a creative essay.

IV. Problems
When I was making my research Review Article and minute note book, I wasted time and I wasted a lot of papers because I always commit mistakes in writing. This is because of my pen craft which make my writing unorganized. For me, I find my penmanship ugly, so instead of a good work, it becomes a poor and dull work. I really hate my pen craft!

V. Solution
It is not new to me that my pen craft is always my problem every time I write an essay. I cannot do anything but to accept the fact that it is so ugly. Maybe I can just make the content of my writing interesting to make the readers read my article.

VI. My Goals for Next Week
My goal for next week is to comply with all my requirements and submit them on its due time. I must also be conscious of my attendance by avoiding being late and being absent.
